Design Intent
The logos aimed to capture the unique character and energy of each team while remaining flexible across applications, from jerseys to merchandise. I wanted to highlight the quirky, fun side of local roller derby while keeping the designs visually bold and legible, blending illustrative detail with strong graphic shapes for maximum recognition.

I wanted to highlight the quirky, fun side of local roller derby while keeping the designs visually bold and legible, blending illustrative detail with strong graphic shapes for maximum recognition.
Outcome
The logo suites were used across three seasons, generating over $2,000 in merchandise sales and drawing more than 250 spectators per home game. They were applied to player jerseys, sports apparel (produced by Frogmouth), team merchandise, stickers, and promotional posters. The project was entirely self-led, giving me near-total creative freedom, an achievement I am extremely proud of.
The Brief
In the summer of 2023, CoMo Roller Derby launched two new home teams to keep local players skating during the off-season. I volunteered to design full logo suites for each team, working from their chosen names, mascots, and color palettes. The goal was to create distinctive, versatile identities that could be applied across jerseys, merchandise, and promotional materials.
The Project
The project involved developing complete logo systems for the two teams: Big Muddy Mayhem, with a sturgeon mascot, and Devil’s Ice Boxers, featuring a pink planarian, a flatworm native to the Devil’s Ice Box cave system. I hand-illustrated the pink planarian mascot and designed variations for full color, limited color, and single-color applications. Typography and color schemes were selected to enhance each team’s personality, and the logos were adapted for digital and print, including apparel, stickers, and posters.
